second largest city in the state with a metropolitan area population of
1.2 million. Hartford is centrally located between New York City and
Boston, both of which are less than 100 miles from the Central Business

Middlesex and Tolland.

The Hartford Central Business District has approximately eight million square feet of office space that serves as an employment center for the greater Hartford area, it is currently the home to corporate and regional headquarters of numerous financial and insurance companies including Aetna/U.S. Healthcare, CIGNA, Phoenix Home Life Mutual Insurance, and Hartford Insurance, as well as many other financial institutions, law firms and various service companies. Other major employers include the State of Connecticut, Travelers Co., United Technologies and the Hartford Hospital.
